This small vase has been finished using the Japanese firing technique, Raku. This involves handling the pottery outside of the kiln when it is 1000 degrees celcius. The exterior is unglazed and burnished to give it a smooth finish, and decorated with sugar and a feather, which looks like an eagle flying across its surface.
Raku fired pottery is for display only, and is not suitable to hold water.
